I think the comments being made in the media about Obama’s appointments are generally accurate.

In particular, I want to add my commendation to the almost universal approval of his retaining Robert Gates as Defense Secretary. I had previously written approvingly of Gates in articles at my military web pages.

Former Commerce Secretary Pete Peterson once said, “We should be grateful we are not getting all the government we are paying for.”

He meant that if the government were far more efficient, they would be an even bigger pain in the ass than they are already.

I make a similar statement about Obama’s campaign promises. We should be grateful that he never meant any of them.

He promised change we can believe in. But he was vague about what he intended to change and how.

Then he appointed Joe Biden and a zillion Clinton administration staffers. So much for change. Now he claims his appointees need experience. Since Republicans have held the White House since 1981, except for the Clinton Administration, experienced Democrats means Clinton staff, period.

If he had announced these appointments during the primaries, he would have lost to Hillary. He knew he had to lie to get nominated and elected and so he did.

He said he was going to end the war in Iraq. Now, almost everything he says about Iraq and those he is appointing to pertinent offices indicate he will do no such thing.

Implicitly, Obama’s appointments generally say to his leftist supporters:

Thanks for the $600 million in contributions, suckers.

The one scary area so far is that he seems to be naming global warming true believers to energy jobs. I already wrote about global warming so I will not repeat it. If his energy appointments just run their mouths about global warming—all anyone on earth has done thus far—they are harmless and will fade away as the public realizes it’s nonsense. But if they get and use authority to spend money or force others to spend money on global warming, they will do great harm to the country. Obama says he is going to spend taxpayers’ money on this. I cannot imagine that anyone—even Congressional Democrats—will let him. But I’m not sure about that.
