Correcting the B.S. the Army-Navy Game announcers spout every year. The genesis of my quote in the 11/225/07 USA Weekend article about the Army-Navy Game by John T. Reed.

Torture

Should the U.S. torture prisoners to get information out of them? No. Torture is immoral. It’s immoral and it costs us the moral high ground that we held for over 200 years. It gives aid and comfort to our enemies ranging from al Qaeda to the out-of-office political party (Democrats or Republicans). It weakens the belief of our own people and military personnel in the rightness of our cause and behavior.

Darfur

There is much hand-wringing at present about genocide in Darfur. In 1959, there was a Kingston Trio song called The Merry Minuet with the lyric: "They’re rioting in Africa." The meaning of the lyrics was that they are always rioting in Africa so why get upset about it. The 1953 lyrics also refer to assorted other disasters like hurricanes in Florida and strife in Iran.

General Petraeus' report to Congress

Some of the Democrats, like Lantos, made asses of themselves. Had I been Petraeus, I would have walked out and given my statement on the front steps of the Congress and taken questions from the press, leaving word with the politicians that I would come back when they were done with their speeches and ready for my testimony.

Put C.C. Meyers in charge of the Iraq war

When the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge needed extensive repairs, who ya gonna call? A football field length section of the bridge needed to be replaced. Caltrans wanted it done during the Labor Day weekend, 2007. I wonder if they would have ever set such a ridiculous deadline if they had not previously had the positive experience with C.C. Myers. He got the bridge job.
